Hair is a Tricky Thing

I have a very hairy chest and back. I know that is TMI (Too much information), and you really don’t care. But recently I had a medical procedure where they had to shave off all that hair before the procedure. It was both disgusting to the medical assistant and embarrassing to me. Worse than that, however, has been the inevitable process of growing back that hair. It itched all the time and the little hairs kept getting caught in the fabric of my shirts. The only way to get through this process with my sanity in place was to look forward to the time when the growth and comfort returned.

It strikes me that life is a little like this hair growth process. We experience times when things are a bit uncomfortable. However, we know that these temporary struggles make us stronger and more mature. In the spiritual realm, God uses these trials to help us to grow into spiritual maturity and become more like him.

Philippians 3:12-14 says, “Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Be patient, but always look forward to the great things God has in store for you.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
