I feel different based on the clothes I wear. If I wear a suit or tuxedo, I feel distinguished and honorable. When I am wearing shorts or jeans, I am casual and patient about things. I can be goofy and extroverted when I put on a costume. It’s funny how we appear affects changes to our personality.
While it may be true that our outside appearance may affect our inner nature, it is also true that our inner character definitely impacts how we appear to others. God wants us to take care of our character. In Colossians 3:12-13, He commands us to “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”
If we ask Him, God will give His Spirit to help us make these internal changes. Then we will reap the interpersonal, social, mental and emotional rewards.
