Drudgery

Each morning I get up early and walk seven to nine miles. I like to vary my route, but even at that, there are just a few places to walk at that time of day. I counter the potential drudgery of walking the same places by walking on beautiful nature trails. The scenery takes my heart and mind to heavenly places and I am revived and encouraged.

Frequently doing the same things in the same way can make life a bit of a drudgery. We get up at the same time each day and do the same morning routine. Then we head to work and perform the same tasks we did the day before. We may then come home and watch to start the same routine tomorrow.

Fortunately, God has provided an exciting opportunity for each of us. Hebrews 10:19-23 says, “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

God in Christ has provided us with a new and living way to live each day. If we have trusted Jesus for salvation, He has made us a brand new person, cleansed from our old ways by His blood. Each day we can enter into the very presence of Almighty God and enjoy the blessings of His steadfast love. Every day becomes a new adventure led by God.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
