John 21:17 "He said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of John, do you love me?' Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, 'Do you love me?' and he said to him, 'Lord, you know everything: you know that I love you.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed my sheep.'" Jesus was getting Peter to reaffirm his love for Jesus. He asked Peter three times because Peter had denied knowing Jesus three times. Then Jesus called Peter to the important work of taking care of God's sheep, His children. When we fail, we need to quickly reaffirm our love to Jesus. He will graciously restore us.
