Gifts Are For Giving

On many a street corner, we find people with signs asking for some donation. Most of the time I just pass by them without thinking much about them or their situation. I am ashamed to admit that. Sometimes I see people with needs and think, “what can I do to help such a big problem?” Or I think that I have so little to give and “can my little gift make any difference?”

Peter and John were on the way to the Temple when they came across a man who had been lame for many years. People had carried this man to the Temple for these many years and he had begged for donations every day. So the lame man asked for a donation from Peter and John. Acts 3:6 records Peter’s response, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”

We all have something to give to those in need. We may not have money, but we have a gift from God to share with others. Our time, talents, and treasure, no matter how small, all make a difference. Let’s be ready to share love and compassion. Let’s say with Peter, “What I do have I give to you.”

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
