It takes courage to stand up for what is right. When we take such a stand, we may look around and find that no one is standing with us. Then it is easy for others to attack us. We have put ourselves in the line of fire.
II Samuel 23 tells us about Eleazar. He was considered one of David’s three mighty men. What made him so special? Samuel says, “And next to him among the three mighty men was Eleazar the son of Dodo, son of Ahohi. He was with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel withdrew.” Eleazar stood up for right, defending his people and being loyal to his leader. David and Eleazar stood alone against the Philistine army. They believed God would deliver them, and He did, giving them a great victory against overwhelming odds.
If you are like me, you don’t consider yourself to be mighty. But empowered by God, we can do mighty works for good. First we must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who believe in Him. Then we must stand up for God and His righteousness. Even though many will oppose us, we must stand up. The blessings will far outweigh the risks.
