Fallen Trees

As I hike through the many forests in our area, I have wondered about the numerous fallen trees that I see. I am not surprised to see fallen trees after a significant storm, but what about all the trees that fall at other times. I have read that poor soil conditions, flooding, insect infestation, and malnutrition all can cause a tree to die and eventually fall to the ground.

Colossians 2:6-7 warns us about decay in our spiritual lives (our souls) when Paul writes, “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Just like a tree in the forest, we must make sure that we are continually connected to the source of our strength, Jesus Christ. Without His continual feeding of our hearts, minds, and souls, disease and decay will set in. We are rooted and built up as we walk closely with Him by faith. We walk closely when we listen to His voice through His Word and talk with Him in prayer.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
