East and West

I began my morning hike before sunrise this morning. When I finally looked up I saw the red moon of the lunar eclipse. As long as I was walking west I could see the eclipse go from a red moon to a red moon with a bright sun brightened light on top. By the time I headed east toward home, the sunrise was at its brightest orange glow. These were awesome sights that I was truly grateful for the opportunity to see, although I had not planned it.

Watching the lunar eclipse and sunrise gave me a sense of just how far the east is from the west. What I could see was just the beginning of the extremes of those two directions. What I saw was also just the beginnings of seeing up into the heavens.

Psalm 103:11-12 says, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” God’s love for His children is immeasurable, higher than the heavens. His forgiveness is complete, removed from His children so far that our sins cannot be seen or even remembered. Everyone who believes in Jesus can rest assured that God loves us and has forgiven us through the sacrifice of His own Son.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
