What is the most important thing that you know and believe? Do you know some state secret? Do you have the cure for some disease? Perhaps you know the key to solving some major problem. Maybe you have information that would help your friend facing a crisis.
From time to time the religious leaders of Jesus’s day would try to trip Him up by asking trick questions. Of course, Jesus saw right through the questions to their wicked self-serving hearts.
One day they asked Jesus about the greatest commandment. Mark 12:29 records Jesus’s response: “Jesus answered, ‘The most important is, ‘Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”” God, through Jesus, is telling us that the most important thing that we can know and believe is that there is only one God. And He expects us to love Him completely. When we believe this truth and love Him fully, this life can be lived to its fullest measure and we receive salvation, redemption, and eternal life.
