How many things do we do on a daily basis that we are really excited about doing? Do we sincerely enjoy taking out the trash, washing dishes, bookkeeping, project reports, and driving to the jobsite? Most tasks we do simply because they are required and not because we are excited to do them.
Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” I used to think that these verses only meant that we should always give our best efforts. Now I believe that they also mean that we should invest our hearts in whatever we do, becoming truly excited to serve the Lord. When God asks us to do something, we have the privilege of serving Him by doing whatever He asks us to do. In addition, the pay is superior to anything we receive on earth. God promised to give us an eternal inheritance in heaven. What better reward can those who trust in Jesus Christ ever expect or receive!
