Knowing What to Say

My wife has much more confidence than I when it comes to speaking to others. I am often clumsy in speech and can make the ensuing conversation awkward. My wife, on the other hand, can speak to others with ease and even make requests that I would never have the boldness to make. So when we need a business to do something for us, it is always better if my wife does the talking.

I John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

The believer in Jesus Christ can have confidence in coming before God’s throne in prayer. This confidence is born in the knowledge of God’s love and grace. We are convinced that He listens to our prayers and acts upon them. In fact, the Bible declares that God’s Son, Jesus Christ, actually leads us to God’s throne in prayer and is our Advocate and Intercessor. When God’s Son speaks, the Father listens.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
