When God Remembers

We remember things in different ways. We have a surface memory of past events and people’s names. We have a deeper memory that prompts us to do something, like go to an appointment or do a favor for someone. When we fail at surface memory, the consequences are minimal, like embarrassment. We we fail at the deeper memory level, the results are more consequential.

I Samuel 1:10-11 says, “She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life.” The word “remember” in this verse means to be moved into action. God remembered Hannah from this prayer and gave her a son. When we ask God to remember us, He will act, but we must respond with sacrifice and service, as Hannah did.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
