First Things First

The expression, “first things first”, makes a lot of sense to me. Perhaps, it’s the expression’s intrinsic truth that accounts for its widespread usage and enduring quality. For if we don’t do or consider first things first, every succeeding thing becomes harder, if they can be accomplished at all.

Jeremiah 2:2 says, “Thus says the LORD, “I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.” Of first importance is loving God. We must begin everything, and life itself, by loving God. Then we can and will follow Him and do good works. Many people try to do good works before loving God and find that these efforts fail or are not effective. In addition, we cannot earn God’s favor without loving Him first, and foremost. Let’s love God with earnest devotion.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
