You have, no doubt, heard the expression “That left a sour taste in my mouth.” This expression refers to our the words that we say, words which we also regret saying. They can be words of criticism, accusation, hurt, or words intended to deceive. Immediately after saying such words, we understand that we have done harm to others and even to ourselves.
Proverbs 18:20-21 says, “From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” The words we say have great power. It is smart to choose our words carefully. Words of encouragement and blessing have the power to heal our souls as well as heal the hearts and souls of others. Let’s choose our words carefully and seek to heal rather than harm.
