What Qualifications Do We Possess?

When we are seeking a new job or promotion, we are hoping that our qualifications match the job requirements and desires of the employer. Often we will spruce up our resume to highlight the experiences and education requested in the job posting. We are thus trying to make ourselves look good in the eyes of the decision makers.

Colossians 1:12-13 says, “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.” We can do nothing to qualify ourselves for God’s love, forgiveness, and entry into His kingdom. He alone has qualified us through the sacrifice of His own Son, Jesus Christ, to enter into a saving relationship with Himself. We cannot earn God’s favor through our performance of religious activities.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
