Uphill, Downhill, and Level Ground

Recently, I hiked several trails in the mountains of a national park. All the trails were surrounded by majestic beauty. The uphill portions of the trails were slow going and quickly drained my energy. The downhill portions of the trails were easier and quicker in many ways, but they were also more dangerous as it was easy to lose control and not see the obstacles ahead. The safest and ultimately easiest trails were those on level ground.

Psalm 143:10 says, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!” Walking on level ground takes less energy, and we can make progress faster. We walk on life’s level ground when we do God’s will while led by His Spirit. He reveals the obstacles and leads us safely past them.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
