America’s Pasttime

I am a huge baseball fan. Baseball is called “American’s Pasttime”, but I know that several other things rank above baseball in the american psyche. I would rank sleeping above baseball as a beloved pasttime. God created us in such a way that He knew that we would need rest. Our bodies and minds cannot withstand the types of stress that we place upon ourselves today. We need rest and God created the Sabbath for us, instructing us to rest.

Psalm 121:3-4 says, “He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber not sleep.” God is vigilant in His care of us. He never takes a moment of rest away from giving us grace and mercy, providing for our needs, protecting us from evil, and steadfastly loving us. God is not frail, like us, and does not need nor take rest.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
