As I get older, I gain more knowledge about the weaknesses of my flesh or body. My body is becoming more and more susceptible to disease and injury. A week ago, I had to go to urgent care one day and the hospital emergency room the next day, for completely different physical concerns. While we might not acknowledge it, the mental, emotional, and spiritual composition is similarly weak, yielding to worldly passions and personal frailty.
I Peter 2:11 says, “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.” Once true believers trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, they become new creations whose citizenship is in heaven. For now we live as travelers in this world, but by the power of the Holy Spirit we can keep ourselves unstained from the desires inherit in worldly passions.
