Trivial Pursuit

Several years ago, a board game called Trivial Pursuit was popular. It involved answering trivia questions. Unfortunately, we can spend our time and energy focusing on trivial pursuits. Things like fame and wealth satisfy us in the short term but quickly fade away or are taken from us.

Matthew 6:19-21 says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” We can pursue fame and material wealth on earth, but all these things are temporary and have no lasting value. Instead, we should pursue godliness and God’s glory, which will last for eternity.

Words Into Actions

At times, we will hear someone speak and we immediately think that what we heard could help us. These words may have come from a trusted advisor or a known expert. But, if we don’t take action based on those words, the words have simply tickled our ears and made no impact upon our lives.

Ezekiel 3:10 says, “Moreover, he said to me, “Son of man, all my words that I shall speak to you receive in your heart, and hear with your ears.” This verse speaks of two physical  body and spiritual organs that God uses to call us to faithfully follow Him. We should set our ears to hear God speak to us, while also setting our hearts to receive and implant His words into our hearts.

Our Team

When we go to the game, it is befitting to wear the team colors and shout for them at the top of our lungs. Rooting for our team and shouting their praises is good.

Psalm 33:1 says, “Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright.” Walking with God, and therefore, praising Him go hand in hand. As we walk with God, we will observe His majesty and receive His grace causing praise to flow from our hearts.

Our Testimony

I John 5:11-12 says, “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” This is God’s testimony to us. It cannot be challenged or altered in any way. God speaks the truth and this truth is eternal.

Every believer in Jesus Christ has a different story of how they have come to faith in Jesus. But at the center of the believer’s testimony is that Jesus Christ has saved us and redeemed us out of sin, making us righteous in the sight of God. Tell your story to others.

Fireworks

This is the season of fireworks displays in communities across the nation. Each firework shot into the sky draws “oohs” and “aahs” from the spectators as they gaze upon the bright lights and colors. But, God performs even more wonderful deeds each day for each of us.

Psalm 9:1-2 says, “I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.” We see many amazing things as we journey through life, but none compare to the wonderful deeds that the Lord does for us. Therefore, let us be glad and rejoice.
