Lost, But Rescued

I was hiking an unfamiliar nature Preserve trail when suddenly the trail was blocked off. I had two choices. I could retrace my steps, but I had already hiked several miles. Or I could try to find a different way to the end of the trail. I foolishly chose the second option. I saw a narrow path that I thought would take me around the blockage. I hiked another couple miles before I conceded that I was lost.  I was able to call my wife, and she was already at the preserve’s headquarters. They sent out a search party and eventually found me. Fortunately, the rescue did not involve search dogs or helicopters, just a jeep and two guys. Nevertheless, I was extremely embarrassed while also grateful for the rescue.

Ezekiel 34:12 says, “As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.” God offers His rescue of we who are lost in salvation by grace through faith. Then, He offers moment by moment rescue for us as we trust Him to lead us and guide us through lives troubles.

After 16 years of vocational ministry, God has called me to a simpler ministry. Now I just proclaim His truth simply to those who are open to hear it. God is speaking through His Word and His creation.
