Have you ever suddenly found yourself with a block of time to do whatever you decide to do? When this happens, we have a choice to make. We can choose to do something selfish like eating a bunch of food that is not good for us, but really tastes good. Or we can choose to something that serves someone else and demonstrates our love for them, like creating something especially for them or doing an errand for them.
Galatians 5:13-14 says, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. for the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” As believers in Jesus Christ, we have the freedom to do the good that we want to do, and not to submit to our old nature, doing what we really do not want to do. This freedom inspires us to serve each other in love, rather than pursue selfish ambitions.
