The people of Israel asked for a king, rejecting God as their King. God chose Saul to be their king. He was anointed king by Samuel, the prophet. Samuel told Saul specifically what would happen in the next few days. Saul did not know how to rule the people. Israel did not previously have a king from whom Saul could learn to be king. Yet, God called him and confirmed His call through a number of signs.
I Samuel 10:6-7 says, “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily, and you shall prophesy with them and be changed into another man. It shall be when these signs come to you, do for yourself what the occasion requires, for God is with you.” God’s calling stretches our faith, but His Spirit strengthens us to accomplish His will. God will gives us signs to confirm our call and give us confidence in His power. In this way, He changes us into new persons equipped for the task.
