At the end of our lives, we will leave behind every material possession that we have at the time. Those whom we have made heirs will take possession of what was ours. During our lives, however, we also leave an inheritance. We can leave an inheritance of faith, but sincerely following our God. We can leave an inheritance of integrity by doing the right things, even when it may cost us something. We may leave an inheritance of joy through the relationships we have established and blessed.
Romans 8:16-17 says, “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” All who trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord become God’s children. The Holy Spirit then dwells within the believer and confirms that we are God’s children through His activity in our lives. As God’s children we inherit the truth and fruit of His promises along with His power and love. We will be forever glorified together with Jesus after suffering a short time in this life.
