Because we are selfish and self-centered people, we have the tendency to do some outlandish things. It is possible to turn our backs on someone who loves us deeply. It is probable that we will disappoint someone whom we admire. It is highly likely that we will not fully do the task that we were assigned by someone who has that authority.
I Samuel 15:10 says, “The word of the LORD came to Samuel: ‘I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned his back from following me and has not performed my commandments.'” God does not regret the actions that He has taken or His decisions, but He does have regret and sadness when we turn away from following Him. God had big plans for Saul, as He does for us, but would not accomplish them when Saul turned His back on God. May we never turn away from God and thus cause God to regret calling us.
