It would be interesting and useful if we all had secret superpowers. These powers would be available to us whenever we had need. For instance, if I were feeling sad, I could call upon the powers of comfort and encouragement. If I was afraid, I might call upon the powers of confidence and faith. If I became confused, the powers of wisdom and foresight will come upon me.
In John 14:16-17 Jesus says, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” One of the great mysteries of walking by faith in Jesus Christ is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life. Here, Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will be with us and even in us to help us walk in sincere faith. Elsewhere in Scripture, we find the promises that the Holy Spirit will empower us, teach us, comfort us, heal us, and guide us.
